Da Nang Launches Urban Development Auctions for Key Land Plots

Urban Land Auctions Aim to Boost Infrastructure and Investment

Da Nang is preparing to auction several strategic land parcels to attract private investment in urban, educational, environmental, and commercial infrastructure. The initiative, approved by the city’s People’s Council on April 26, aims to drive sustainable development and urban expansion across multiple districts between 2025 and 2026.

At the heart of this strategy lies Hoa Vang district, currently holding the city’s largest land reserves. The area is set to host some of the most ambitious urban projects, including:

  • Dong Nam Suon Doi Urban Area: 268 hectares

  • Tay Bac Suon Doi Urban Area: 53 hectares

  • Hoa Vang Administrative Urban Area: 160 hectares

These developments are located near popular tourism hotspots like Ba Na Hills, making them prime candidates for mixed-use urban planning.

According to the city’s 1/2000 master plan approved in July 2024, the Suon Doi Ecological Urban Zone, covering Hoa Ninh, Hoa Son, and Hoa Phu communes in Hoa Vang, will blend urban functionality with ecological conservation near Ba Na’s foothills.

Strategic Projects Target Key Transport and Industrial Nodes

Beyond the hillside zones, Da Nang is also offering investment opportunities for several urban zones along crucial transit corridors:

  • East Urban Area near South Hai Van Tunnel Bypass (135 hectares)

  • Riverside Urban Zone along Southeast NH1A (30 hectares)

  • Thanh Vinh Industrial Urban Extension (36+ hectares)

In Cam Le District, the city is initiating a 53-hectare riverside urban area near Cau Do Water Plant, ideal for residential and commercial use. In Ngu Hanh Son District, over 26 hectares have been earmarked for educational infrastructure, focusing on training and academic institutions.

Meanwhile, Lien Chieu District is set to host a critical environmental project: a waste sludge treatment and recycling facility on nearly 5 hectares. This underscores Da Nang’s dual commitment to growth and sustainability.

Project Rollout Timeline and Regional Integration

The auction and investor selection processes will span from 2025 to 2026, ensuring a phased yet coordinated implementation. These investments are expected to enhance regional competitiveness, ease infrastructure burdens, and diversify Da Nang’s urban and economic landscape.

Additionally, the city’s long-term strategic planning includes a proposed merger with neighboring Quang Nam Province. The merged administrative entity—still tentatively referred to as Da Nang City—will cover 11,859 km² with over 3 million residents, 94 wards and communes, and a special administrative unit for the Hoang Sa Archipelago.

This expanded urban territory is expected to strengthen central Vietnam’s role as a key economic and administrative hub, leveraging Da Nang’s status as a major port city and tourism gateway.

Urban Investment: Balancing Growth with Livability

City leaders emphasized that the auctions will follow a transparent and competitive process, ensuring that chosen investors align with Da Nang’s smart city and environmental goals. The planned developments focus on not just increasing residential and commercial space, but also delivering green infrastructure, efficient waste management, and education-first districts.
