Binh Duong Metro & Line 6: Five HCMC Metro Lines Breaking Ground in Late 2026 — Two “Line 2s” Explained and the Projects Along Each
Updated 16 October 2026 — short answer: Ho Chi Minh City is preparing to break ground on five metro lines in late 2026. Three are funded from the city budget: the Line 1 extension from Binh Duong New City to Suoi Tien (about 31–33 km, roughly VND 55 trillion), the Binh Duong “Line 2” from Thu Dau Mot to Tao Dan in central HCMC (about 33–35 km, roughly VND 113 trillion) and Line 6, phase 1, from Tan Son Nhat airport to Phu Huu (about 23 km, over VND 86.5 trillion). The other two are PPP projects: Line 2’s Tham Luong – An Ha extension and the Thu Thiem – Long Thanh line (HCMC Departments of Finance and Construction, 15 October 2026). The “Line 2” along National Highway 13 and the “Line 2” heading towards Long Thanh are two different lines.
Realtique has matched the latest alignments against the projects we follow: along the Binh Duong “Line 2” sit Norton Park, SkySOLIS and Setia Edenia; at Binh Duong New City — where the Line 1 extension and the Binh Duong “Line 2” both begin — are The Nest, The Orchard Sycamore and Artisan Park; and on Vo Chi Cong Boulevard, which Line 6 follows, are Imperia Sensa Park and Gladia Heights. Below, line by line: where it runs, when it is due, and what is built along it. (USD figures are approximate at about VND 26,000 per dollar.)

Which Five Metro Lines Are Due to Start in Late 2026?
On 15 October 2026, the director of HCMC’s Department of Finance, Hoang Vu Thanh, said the city is speeding up preparations to break ground on five metro lines and nine priority infrastructure projects around the end of the year — the latter including the North–South trunk road upgrade, National Highway 22, the Cat Lai – Phu Huu port road to Ring Road 3, and three bridges: Thu Thiem 4, Can Gio and Phu My 2 (Cong An TP.HCM, VTV, 15 October 2026). Budget figures for the three public lines come from the Department of Construction:
| Line | From – to | Length | Budget | Funding |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Line 1 extension (Binh Duong section) | Binh Duong New City – Suoi Tien station on Line 1 | 32.8 km | ~VND 55tn (~US$2.1bn) | Public |
| Binh Duong “Line 2” | Thu Dau Mot – central HCMC (Tao Dan station) | 35 km (approved alignment: 33.2 km) | ~VND 113tn (~US$4.3bn) | Public |
| Line 6, phase 1 | Tan Son Nhat airport – Phu Huu | 23 km | >VND 86.5tn (~US$3.3bn) | Public |
| Line 2, Tham Luong – An Ha section | Tham Luong – An Ha – Northwest New Urban Area | 30 km | VND 85tn (proposed) | PPP |
| Thu Thiem – Long Thanh line | Thu Thiem – Long Thanh International Airport | Almost 47 km (11.5 km in HCMC) | Phase 1 >VND 134tn | PPP |
Two caveats. First, the numbers are still moving with each round of paperwork: the Line 1 extension dossier published the same day gives a length of about 30.66 km and a total investment of VND 88,875 billion, including VND 19,575 billion for compensation and resettlement (Vietnammoi, 15 October 2026); the Thu Dau Mot – Tao Dan line received alignment approval on 6 October at about 33.2 km (VnEconomy, 6 October 2026). Final figures will be fixed when the investment decisions are approved, expected in November–December 2026. Second, “ground-breaking in late 2026” is a plan; the common target for completion is around 2030.

Two Different “Line 2s”: The National Highway 13 Line and the Line Towards Long Thanh
This is where most buyers get confused. Two numbering systems both produce a “Line 2”:
- HCMC Metro Line 2 (in the city’s own network): its core section, Ben Thanh – Tham Luong (11.3 km), broke ground on 15 January 2026 and is due to open at the end of 2030 (see our guide to HCMC’s metro and property values). It extends in two directions: northwest via Tham Luong – An Ha (30 km, PPP — one of the five lines now being prepared), and east via Ben Thanh – Thu Thiem, about 6 km underground beneath the Saigon River with six stations and a budget of about VND 36.7 trillion under PPP (Tuoi Tre, 29 April 2026). At Thu Thiem it meets the Thu Thiem – Long Thanh line, a separate project running to the new airport. That is why people say “Line 2 goes to Long Thanh”: in reality it is two lines joined at Thu Thiem.
- The Binh Duong “Line 2” is a name from the former Binh Duong province’s plan for the Thu Dau Mot – Tao Dan line along Binh Duong Avenue (National Highway 13). Since Binh Duong merged into HCMC the name has stuck — Gamuda Land also calls the line past Norton Park “Metro Line 2”. The line has no official number in HCMC’s network yet, so the clearest name is its two end points: Thu Dau Mot – Tao Dan. Its terminus, Tao Dan station, is also a station on HCMC Line 2, so the two “Line 2s” meet right in the city centre.
| When you hear… | It actually means | Route | Status, Oct 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| “Line 2 on Highway 13” | Thu Dau Mot – Tao Dan line | Binh Duong New City → Binh Duong Avenue → Binh Trieu → Xo Viet Nghe Tinh → Tao Dan | Alignment approved 6 Oct; ground-breaking planned for late 2026 |
| “Line 2 to Long Thanh” | HCMC Line 2 (Ben Thanh – Thu Thiem) + Thu Thiem – Long Thanh line | Ben Thanh → Thu Thiem → Binh Trung → Phu Huu → Long Thanh Airport | Thu Thiem – Long Thanh being prepared for ground-breaking (PPP); Ben Thanh – Thu Thiem due from Q3 2030 |
| “Line 2” (original) | Ben Thanh – Tham Luong | Cach Mang Thang Tam – Truong Chinh | Under construction since 15 Jan 2026 |
| “Line 2 northwest extension” | Tham Luong – An Ha – Northwest New Urban Area | HCMC’s northwest gateway | Being prepared (PPP) |
Realtique’s rule of thumb: when someone says a project is “near Line 2”, ask for the line’s two end points and the nearest station name — never just the number. Line 6 has the same problem: older plans used the number for a short Ba Queo – Phu Lam stretch, while the Line 6 now being prepared is the Tan Son Nhat – Phu Huu section of a planned 53.8 km line (Tuoi Tre, 7 June 2026).

Where Does the Binh Duong “Line 2” (Thu Dau Mot – Tao Dan) Run?
On 6 October 2026, the HCMC People’s Committee approved the alignment and station sites of the Thu Dau Mot – Tao Dan line (VnEconomy, 6 October 2026). Key facts:
- About 33.2 km long, of which about 17.7 km is elevated and the rest underground; it passes through 16 wards, from Binh Duong, Phu Loi, Thu Dau Mot, Thuan An, Thuan Giao, Lai Thieu and Binh Hoa to Binh Thanh, Gia Dinh, Saigon, Ben Thanh and Ban Co.
- 24 stations: 11 elevated (C0–C10) and 13 underground (C11–C23); a depot of about 26.8 ha at Hiep Binh Phuoc.
- It starts at station C0, shared with station S5 of the Line 1 extension on Hung Vuong Street in Binh Duong New City, and ends at C23 in Tao Dan Park.
- Interchanges: C17 (where the North–South railway meets Pham Van Dong) for Line 6; C19 (Bach Dang – Xo Viet Nghe Tinh) for Line 5; C22 (Youth Cultural House) for Lines 4 and 2.
- About 81.2 ha of land to be acquired, affecting some 2,681 households and plots; compensation and resettlement budgeted at about VND 34.4 trillion. Approval is expected in December, ground-breaking in late 2026 and completion in 2030.
What changed since the July consultation version (35.1 km — our earlier analysis): the line no longer follows National Highway 13 all the way. Thuan An is where it drops from elevated to underground: C10, the last elevated station, sits on park land in front of Becamex International Hospital and Lotte Mart Binh Duong; the line then crosses the highway and runs underground along a 110 kV power corridor past the Vinh Phu residential areas (C11, C12), the Thu Duc wholesale market (C13) and the Hiep Binh Phuoc depot, rejoining the highway corridor at Ong Dau bridge – Binh Trieu (C17), passing under the Saigon River and following Xo Viet Nghe Tinh and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai to Tao Dan.
Projects Along the Binh Duong “Line 2”: Norton Park, SkySOLIS, Setia Edenia
Three new apartment projects sit on Binh Duong Avenue through Thuan Giao – Lai Thieu, the stretch the Thu Dau Mot – Tao Dan line serves:
- Norton Park (Gamuda Land) — fronting Binh Duong Avenue right next to AEON Mall Binh Duong Canary in Thuan Giao. The developer presents a planned station of the line directly in front of the project. Indicative price around VND 66 million/m² (gross), handover expected Q3 2029; foreign-buyer allocation not yet announced. Location analysis: Norton Park location.
- SkySOLIS (SkyWorld Development, Malaysia) — fronting National Highway 13 in Lai Thieu; three 40-storey towers, 1,101 units, indicative VND 58–59 million/m² before VAT, handover expected Q2 2029. The highway’s former-Binh-Duong section is also being finished at eight lanes.
- Setia Edenia (SP Setia, Malaysia) — fronting National Highway 13 in Lai Thieu, part of the EcoXuan township.
Under the new alignment the line runs underground and away from the highway south of C10 — so “on Highway 13” no longer automatically means “station at the gate”. Once the project is approved (expected December 2026) and station entrances are drawn, Realtique will publish actual walking distances from each project to its nearest station.
Line 1 Extension: Binh Duong New City – Suoi Tien, and the Projects at Its Start
This line links Binh Duong New City with Suoi Tien, the terminus of the operating Line 1 (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien). According to the dossier published on 15 October 2026, it is fully elevated, about 30.66 km long, designed for 120 km/h, with 19 stations (S0A, S0B, S1–S17) and a depot at Phu Chanh. Station S1 sits at the A1 central station roundabout in the New City; the line runs in the Hung Vuong Street median, parallel to the Di An – Bau Bang railway, via My Phuoc – Tan Van, Ring Road 3, Provincial Road 743A and QL1K to Dong Hoa – Suoi Tien. Investment approval is expected in November–December 2026, ground-breaking at year end and about 60 months of construction (Vietnammoi, 15 October 2026).
The point for buyers in the New City: it is where both Binh Duong lines begin — station S5 on Hung Vuong Street belongs to the Line 1 extension and is also C0 of the Thu Dau Mot – Tao Dan line. That gives two routes into the centre: to Suoi Tien and change to Line 1, or down the Highway 13 – Binh Thanh corridor to Tao Dan. (Background: Binh Duong New City buyer’s guide.)
- The Nest (Becamex Tokyu, Midori Park) — 972 apartments in two towers in the heart of the New City, next to AEON Mall and WTC Gateway.
- The Orchard Sycamore (CapitaLand – UOA) — gated townhouses in Hoa Phu within the 18.9 ha Sycamore masterplan.
- Artisan Park — a shophouse precinct in the New City centre, near the administrative centre and WTC Expo.
A small warning: station codes have changed between dossier versions (older documents use codes such as S19), so do not measure distances from the station codes printed in sales brochures.
Line 6, Phase 1: Tan Son Nhat – Phu Huu Along Vo Chi Cong
Phase 1 of Line 6 is about 23 km long with a budget of more than VND 86.5 trillion (Department of Construction, 15 October 2026), and is planned to run entirely underground (PLO, 21 March 2026). From Phu Huu it follows Vo Chi Cong, Ring Road 2, Pham Van Dong, Hong Ha and Bach Dang into Terminal 3, then the Cong Hoa interchange, linking with Line 2 at Ba Queo; it serves all three Tan Son Nhat terminals, T1, T2 and T3 (Tuoi Tre, 7 June 2026). At its eastern end, Phu Huu station connects with the Thu Thiem – Long Thanh line — once both are running, travel between Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh airports is expected to take about 30 minutes. The city aims to break ground in late 2026 and finish before 2030.
Station C17 at Binh Trieu is the interchange between Line 6 and the Thu Dau Mot – Tao Dan line: residents along Binh Duong Avenue will reach Tan Son Nhat with a single change.
- Imperia Sensa Park (MIK Group) — on Vo Chi Cong, entered from Lien Phuong Street in Phuoc Long ward, with water on two sides (the Rach Chiec river and a canal). See Imperia Sensa Park’s location and East Saigon’s four metro lines.
- Gladia Heights (Keppel – Khang Dien) — the first high-rise phase of the 60 ha Gladia by The Waters township in Phu Huu; 616 apartments in three 15-storey towers, indicative from about VND 83 million/m² (standard handover). See Gladia Heights location and infrastructure.
A full station list for Line 6’s Thu Duc section has not been published; both projects sit on the Vo Chi Cong – Phu Huu axis the line follows, and walking distances will be clear once the feasibility study is approved.
The Two PPP Lines: Tham Luong – An Ha and Thu Thiem – Long Thanh
Line 2’s Tham Luong – An Ha – Northwest New Urban Area section is 30 km long with a proposed VND 85 trillion budget under PPP — taking Line 2 from the Tham Luong depot out to HCMC’s northwest gateway, where several new townships are planned.
The Thu Thiem – Long Thanh line runs almost 47 km (11.5 km in HCMC, nearly 36 km in Dong Nai), with phase 1 above VND 134 trillion under PPP and completion targeted for 2030 — the link between the city centre and Long Thanh airport. On the HCMC side, The Privé (Dat Xanh) sits beside the line’s Binh Trung station (see also our Thu Duc City buyer’s guide).
Buying Near a Future Metro Station: Four Checks Realtique Makes First
- Name the line by its end points, not its number: as above, “Line 2” can mean four different sections.
- Ground-breaking is not opening. These lines target completion around 2030; Line 1 (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien) broke ground in 2012 and took more than 12 years to carry passengers. Price an apartment on today’s infrastructure and treat the metro as upside later.
- Walking distance to the station entrance, measured once station drawings are approved — the uplift concentrates within walking distance of the station.
- For foreign buyers: the project must be on the list approved for sale to foreigners and the building must still have room under the 30% cap (how to check a building’s foreign quota). Overseas Vietnamese who hold Vietnamese nationality buy as domestic citizens under the 2024 Land Law (in force since 1 August 2024) and do not count towards the cap.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which HCMC metro lines will break ground in late 2026?
According to HCMC’s Departments of Finance and Construction (15 October 2026): the Line 1 extension from Binh Duong New City to Suoi Tien (about VND 55 trillion), the Binh Duong “Line 2” from Thu Dau Mot to central HCMC (about VND 113 trillion) and Line 6 phase 1 from Tan Son Nhat to Phu Huu (over VND 86.5 trillion) — all publicly funded — plus two PPP lines: Line 2’s Tham Luong – An Ha section (VND 85 trillion proposed) and Thu Thiem – Long Thanh (phase 1 over VND 134 trillion).
Where will the Binh Duong metro run?
There are two lines. The Line 1 extension runs elevated from Binh Duong New City along Hung Vuong Street and My Phuoc – Tan Van, through Di An to Suoi Tien. The Thu Dau Mot – Tao Dan line (about 33.2 km, 24 stations) runs elevated along Binh Duong Avenue through Thuan An, then underground via Vinh Phu and Hiep Binh Phuoc, rejoins Highway 13 at Binh Trieu and continues along Xo Viet Nghe Tinh and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai to Tao Dan Park.
When will the Binh Duong metro start construction?
Both lines are planned to break ground in late 2026, after investment approval expected in November–December 2026. The Thu Dau Mot – Tao Dan line targets completion in 2030; the Line 1 extension is planned for about 60 months of construction. These are planned dates and may change.
Is the “Line 2” on Highway 13 the same as the “Line 2” to Long Thanh?
No. The Highway 13 line is the Binh Duong “Line 2” (Thu Dau Mot – Tao Dan). “Line 2 to Long Thanh” means HCMC Line 2 extended from Ben Thanh to Thu Thiem, joining the separate Thu Thiem – Long Thanh PPP line. The two “Line 2s” meet at Tao Dan station.
Where does HCMC Metro Line 6 phase 1 run, and when will it open?
Phase 1 is about 23 km, underground from Phu Huu along Vo Chi Cong, Ring Road 2, Pham Van Dong and Hong Ha into Tan Son Nhat airport (T1, T2, T3), linking Line 2 at Ba Queo and the Thu Thiem – Long Thanh line at Phu Huu. Budget over VND 86.5 trillion; ground-breaking planned for late 2026 and completion before 2030.
Which apartment projects are along the Binh Duong metro?
Along the Thu Dau Mot – Tao Dan line on Binh Duong Avenue: Norton Park (Gamuda Land, next to AEON Mall Canary), SkySOLIS (SkyWorld, Lai Thieu) and Setia Edenia (SP Setia, Lai Thieu). In Binh Duong New City, where both Binh Duong lines begin: The Nest, The Orchard Sycamore and Artisan Park. Exact distances to stations will be known once station drawings are approved.
⚠️ Note: Lengths, budgets and ground-breaking dates are planning information released by HCMC authorities through the press (6–15 October 2026) and may change at approval; sources still differ on kilometres and total investment. Project positions relative to the lines are based on published alignments and developer materials; distances to individual stations are not yet known. This article is not investment or legal advice.
